Technology Seminar

The objectives were to explore the impact that technology is having on our island, and is likely to have in the future, including its opportunities and challenges. Speakers for the breakout sessions and panel discussions included Ian Tibbetts, Director of E-Services for the Cayman Islands Government, Polly Pickering, Managing Director of eShore Ltd, and Director of Exco of Digital Cayman, Adner Almeida who accompanied Polly and is the Founder of MimeSure services, and Codi Whittaker who is the Co-Founder and Operator at Primitive Greens

Charlie Kirkconnell gave the Keynote Address to start the evening. Kirkconnell assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer at Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) which led to the transformation of Cayman's special economic zones into a thriving, award-winning business hub.

Codi Whittaker is the Co-Founder and Operator of Primitive Greens, a Cayman Islands-based container farming company focused on enhancing food security and resiliency in the Cayman Islands. He believes that Primitive Greens has a unique opportunity to address many problems in the Cayman Islands regarding agriculture, renewable energy, education, and economic development. Codi spoke about his challenges and goals to bring forth a new age of food production for the Cayman Islands and his use of technology to achieve this.

Ian Tibbets has been leading a team within the Cayman Islands Government, implementing digital services to streamline administrative processes, improve transparency, and enhance citizen engagement. Ian mentioned some of the e-gov’s current projects surrounding digital infrastructure for the Cayman Islands digital economy.

Polly Pickering has been involved in the technology sector in Cayman for nearly 3 decades as the Co-Founder and Managing Director of eShore Ltd a cyber-security company. She along with Abner Almeida presented on current and past cyber-security solutions and challenges we face in our business and personal lives living in Cayman.

Each panelist had 40-minute breakout sessions with the class, in which the class members had the opportunity to get insight on the future of the Cayman Islands technology industry.
